Delmarva's colorful shipwreck past is
being brought vividly back to life again in Fenwick
Island, Delaware, in an exciting new exploratory museum
appropriately named DiscoverSea Shipwreck Museum. Learn
about Spanish, French, British, Irish, and Colonial
shipwrecks and lost treasures of history, gold, silver
and jewels that lie in briny graves just offshore local beaches
waiting to be discovered.
Hear about
infamous pirates who once roamed Delaware and Maryland
beaches and learn about their notorious methods for
luring unsuspecting vessels into their clutches. See
remnants of lost merchants ships and their passengers'
belongings, the coins, and other artifacts that today are
washing ashore on local "Coin Beaches".
DiscoverSea Museum
is a collaborative creation of maritime historian and
salvor Dale Clifton and local businessman Jack Childers,
owner of Sea Shell City. Entering the exhibit is like
stepping across a bridge into another world. The
atmosphere is filled with sights and sounds of the sea
and the music of centuries past. Glass-encased exhibits
of literally
thousands of shipwreck discoveries are alternated with
displays of natural wonders of the deep. Electronic
information buttons dot the walls. Push a button and the
exhibit is explained. Clifton also gives personal
lectures and video
presentations.
Clifton has dedicated most of his adult
life to research and exploration of this and otherareas
of shipwreck history. He brings to Fenwick Island
visitors a wealth of information, and this is evident in
the scope of the treasures displayed. A must
see!!!
